Flux Resources is seeking a Sr. Environmental Scientist - Air Specialist to join one of our clients in the Edison, NJ area. This is a full time direct hire opportunity.
This person will serve as a project lead and provide counsel or supervision to Jr level air science professionals and technicians. The Senior Air Scientist is expected to have a broad knowledge in the calibration, maintenance, deployment, use, and data collection for handheld, portable and transportable air sampling and monitoring devices. This person will develop and implement sampling/monitoring and data collection plans and be proficient in and knowledgeable regarding the implementation of multi-media, multi-matrix sampling techniques and associated analytical methods.
The Senior Air Scientist will lead a team of up to 10 junior and mid-level air scientists by providing them guidance and direction and must be able to work productively in a team setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- This position requires a minimum of a B.S. Degree and 10 years of recent and relevant experience with air sampling/monitoring protocols. Relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for education;
- Have experience in the calibration, maintenance, deployment, use, and data collection for handheld, portable and transportable air sampling and monitoring devices. Knowledge in the development and implementation of sampling/monitoring and data collection plans. Proficient in and knowledge of the implementation of multi-media, multi-matrix sampling techniques and associated analytical methods;
- Work collaboratively with a team and under the supervision of an Operations Coordinator and Program Manager;
- Manager up to 10 junior and mid-level air scientists by providing them guidance and direction;
- Responds to releases of hazardous materials and provides site assessment services;
- Able to plan and lead a site-wide environmental investigation;
- Prepare technical reports based on field activities and findings;
- Perform desktop reviews of historical site data.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous use of any of the following air monitoring instruments: AreaRAE, AreaRAE Pro, MultiRAE Pro, SPM Flex, TSI DustTrak, FID/PID, Mercury Analyzers, data telemetry systems, or any other relevant air monitoring/sampling equipment;
- Knowledge and/or experience with Vapor Intrusion and sampling with summa canisters and Tedlar bags;
- Knowledge and/or experience preparing Site-Specific Quality Assurance Project Plans and Technical Reports;
- Field instrumentation. Experience in the use of various air monitoring and multi-media sampling instruments. Abilities include calibration of field instruments, implementation in field, and interpretation of results;
- Knowledge and/or experience in computer applications and an ability to learn new computer programs quickly and efficiently;
- Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS), specifically the ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 training courses. Completion of ICS courses a plus;
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER;
- Able to work in PPE Levels D/C/B/A.
Expected Outcomes:
- Emergency response requirements will include being readily available to respond at a moment’s notice nationwide. Travel may be up to two weeks at a time and may comprise 25% of the year;
- Calibration and maintenance of a variety of multi-media monitoring and sampling equipment;
- Document field activities and prepare daily and final reports;
- Self-motivated team member who can pick up an equipment manual and/or standard operating procedure for a piece of equipment and be able to get the equipment operating properly;
- Projects may include, but are not limited to: asbestos sampling, vapor intrusion sampling, soil gas sampling, drum sampling, air monitoring, air sampling for mercury, and metal air sampling;
- In-field multi-media sampling;
- Proficient in the writing of technical documents and plans;
- Familiar with PPE levels and to make entries into potentially hazardous areas.
Base Salary Range: $100 – 120k/yr
