Civil Engineer (Data Center Infrastructure) This is a full-time, full-time (40 hours/week), on-site contract role located in Austin, TX.
Summary This role is a Civil Engineering position focused on end-to-end site development for large-scale data center campuses across multiple U.S. locations. You will own the civil workstream across a multi-site portfolio, spanning site selection, grading, drainage, utilities, permitting, and construction support. This is an owner/developer-style role where you will lead external consultants and coordinate with geotechnical engineers, contractors, utilities, and local authorities to deliver fully engineered, construction-ready sites for hyperscale infrastructure. The work is highly execution-driven and involves shaping some of the largest and most complex industrial developments in progress, with significant emphasis on speed, scalability, and risk management.
Our Ideal Candidate
5+ years of civil engineering experience in large-scale industrial, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline
Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit (expected within 12 months)
Strong knowledge of grading, earthwork, stormwater management, and site utility design
Experience with NPDES, FEMA floodplain regulations, and land disturbance permitting
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with GIS tools preferred
Ability to manage external consultants and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams
Willingness to travel 20–30% to project sites across the U.S.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience in hyperscale data centers, energy infrastructure, or large industrial development
Familiarity with FM Global site requirements
Exposure to challenging geotechnical conditions (expansive soils, karst, high water table)
Experience in owner/developer-side delivery environments
Responsibilities
Lead civil due diligence for greenfield and conversion sites, including topography, drainage, utilities, soils, and environmental constraints
Identify civil risks, cost drivers, and fatal flaws during site selection and feasibility stages
Direct geotechnical investigations and interpret subsurface reports to inform design decisions
Develop and maintain civil basis of design, master specifications, and standard drawings
Manage external civil engineering consultants from schematic design through IFC deliverables
Establish grading strategies, earthwork balancing, and mass excavation planning for large campuses
Coordinate utility routing including water, sewer, stormwater, MV electrical, and roadway infrastructure
Lead permitting strategy including NPDES, SWPPP, floodplain (CLOMR/LOMR), and environmental approvals
Interface with state and local agencies, utilities, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance
Support construction activities through submittals, RFIs, field reviews, and design changes
Oversee civil closeout, as-builts, and final site acceptance with authorities
Compensation & Benefits • The base salary for this W-2 position ranges from $96.15 – $120.19 per hour, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
