Technical Program Manager (Data Center Design & Engineering)
This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), hybrid role located in Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; or Seattle, WA.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager (TPM) to support a growing portfolio of mission-critical data center design and infrastructure delivery programs. This role will serve as a key member of the Design & Engineering organization, providing leadership across project management, program governance, design coordination, standards development, and process improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will oversee multiple concurrent design programs while establishing scalable systems, templates, and workflows that improve execution across internal teams, consultants, and delivery partners. This position is ideal for a highly organized program leader who thrives in complex technical environments and enjoys building the operational frameworks that enable engineering teams to focus on delivering exceptional technical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Program Structure & Delivery
- Manage a portfolio of concurrent data center design and engineering programs from project initiation through construction-ready handoff
- Develop and maintain integrated master schedules across:
- Architectural
- Structural
- Civil
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Technology and specialty engineering disciplines
- Establish and maintain program governance processes including:
- Milestone gates
- Design review workflows
- Change management procedures
- Decision tracking systems
- Proactively identify project risks, dependencies, schedule impacts, and resource constraints
- Develop mitigation strategies and drive issue resolution before impacts occur
- Prepare executive-level reporting including:
- Program status updates
- Schedule health assessments
- Risk registers
- Escalation summaries
- Key decision tracking
Standards & Process Development
- Develop and maintain project management frameworks, delivery playbooks, and engineering execution standards
- Create and manage:
- Design review templates
- Consultant scopes of work
- RFP templates
- Meeting structures
- Delivery workflows
- Drive standardization across programs to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency
- Maintain document control systems and deliverable tracking processes
- Continuously improve templates and standards based on project lessons learned and stakeholder feedback
Automation & Digital Delivery
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive project management and design coordination processes
- Implement tools and workflows that reduce administrative effort and improve visibility
- Evaluate and support deployment of project management and collaboration platforms
- Configure systems and workflows to align with engineering and project delivery needs
- Serve as the operational bridge between engineering teams and project management tools
Design Delivery Coordination
- Coordinate schedules and deliverables across external design consultants and engineering partners
- Support consultant procurement activities, including:
- Scope development
- RFP creation
- Proposal evaluations
- Consultant onboarding
- Facilitate design milestone reviews throughout project development
- Track open items, action plans, and design decisions through closure
- Support RFI management and design clarification efforts during early construction phases
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary project management point of contact for consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Facilitate coordination meetings, design workshops, and value engineering sessions
- Support long-lead equipment coordination and procurement schedule alignment
- Develop clear, concise communications tailored to leadership teams, project stakeholders, and technical contributors
- Ensure stakeholders receive timely updates regarding project status, risks, and key decisions
Our Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline
- 7+ years of experience managing complex technical programs or capital projects
- Experience supporting one or more of the following industries:
- Data centers
- Mission-critical facilities
- Industrial infrastructure
- Oil & gas
- Manufacturing
- Power generation and distribution
- Large-scale construction
- Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and design teams
- Experience managing consultants through full project lifecycles
- Strong project planning, scheduling, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to create structure, processes, and systems in rapidly evolving environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to produce executive-level reports and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience using project scheduling tools such as:
- Primavera P6
- Microsoft Project
- Equivalent project planning platforms
- Comfortable operating within fast-paced owner/developer environments where initiative and accountability are expected
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hyperscale, data center, or mission-critical infrastructure development projects
- Background in manufacturing, process engineering, or technically complex production environments
- Experience with digital design and collaboration platforms, including:
- Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
- BIM 360
- Revit
- Navisworks
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project/program management certification
- Experience supporting capital project budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and change management
- Familiarity with design-build delivery models and large-scale infrastructure programs
- Experience implementing project controls, reporting systems, and portfolio management processes
Compensation & Benefits
- The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $96.15 – $120.19 per hour
