Ability to identify primary and secondary electrical facilities such as poles, wires, transformers, and substations.
Capable of recognizing potential hazards and unsafe work conditions, as well as determining the necessary crew size and equipment for restoration work.
All work must be performed safely and in compliance with established safety standards and regulations.
Knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission safety rules and procedures is required.
Competency in distinguishing between electrical, cable, and telephone lines is essential.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and identifying hazards with both energized and de-energized primary and secondary voltages is necessary.
May be required to lead a two-person team responsible for patrolling distribution lines damaged by natural causes.
Must accurately identify necessary repairs for restoration and provide precise damage assessments.
Proficiency in using binoculars, cell phones, and radios to complete tasks effectively.
Availability during the utility's required hours and until restoration work is completed is essential.
Ability to stand and scout through various terrain and weather conditions is necessary.
Willingness to complete any follow-up work required by the utility.
Integrity must be upheld in all aspects of the work.
Requirements:
The position requires walking along the power line right-of-ways in various weather and terrain conditions.
Previous storm industry experience, and the ability to follow directions, be flexible, and work well with others.
Good documentation skills, integrity, knowledge of electrical distribution facilities and safety rules, good time management, and strong communication skills.
Must have a valid driver's license and a suitable vehicle for business use, or be eligible to rent a car under the company's rental agreement.
Current car insurance if using your own vehicle.
The job may require extended hours, including day and night shifts, and you should be comfortable using a smartphone and basic mobile apps.
