We are actively seeking an experienced permit writer to provide technical support and expertise to project managers for our commercial and federal projects. The candidate will complete permit and technical report writing for a variety of environmental and utility projects. The permit writer will leverage their technical expertise in the field of biology and environmental science to expedite the permit application process. They will coordinate with the team lead, project managers, and other technical staff to prepare permit applications and technical reports for regulatory approvals. Additionally, the candidate will perform field activities in support of permit applications and permit requirements. Such field activities may include site surveys, wetland and stream delineations, habitat assessment, and environmental sampling.    
    
This role will primarily support projects in the northeast region. Tasks will be conducted in the field and office work can be supported from home.    
    
Expected Outcomes:    
  • Reviews applicable regulations and permit requirements to evaluate a project’s permitting need and scope of work. 
  • Conducts field investigations, implementing methods and procedures appropriate to the scope of work and permitting requirements. 
  • Oversees and directs restoration and mitigation projects as appropriate to the scope of work and permitting requirements. 
  • Obtains data required for permit applications and prescribed by the project’s scope of work. 
  • Coordinates with junior staff to complete project tasks and provide technical review. 
  • Communicates with team lead and project managers regarding project tasks and progress. 
  • Produces meaningful, precise, easily read, technical reports of field results appropriate to the scope of work and permitting requirements. 
  • Prepares, compiles, and submits permit applications. 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:    
  • B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related natural resource program with 5-10 years of experience. 
  • Prior environmental consulting experience in federal, state, and local permitting is a must. 
  • Prior environmental consulting experience in biology is preferred, but other technical backgrounds may be considered. 
  • Certification in the use of the USACE wetland delineation manual and supplements is preferred. 
  • Certification as a Soil Scientist and/or Professional Wetland Scientist is a plus. 
  • Experience in site assessment, including threatened and endangered species studies. 
  • High level of knowledge regarding State (NYDEC, PADEP, and NJDEP) and Federal (USEPA, USFWS, and USACE) regulations and permitting. 
  • Skill in technical writing and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe. 
  • Ability to complete office tasks and field work independently. 
  • Ability to maintain effective communication and productivity while working remotely. 
  • Ability to collect site information from publicly available databases.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.    

The pay for this position ranges from $70,000-$100,000 a year. Actual starting pay is dependent upon experience, education, or other bona fide factors. This position may be eligible for PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length of service and hours requirements.
