We are currently seeking Certified Floodplain Managers in support of FEMA disaster relief efforts across the United States. Are you wanting to give back to communities? Do you want to travel across the country and have the travel expenses covered? We have ongoing needs for engineering opportunities in support of FEMA’s Public Assistance program.

Pay: $41.95/hr.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide subject matter expertise regarding environmental floodplain considerations during project development.
  • Assist and advise internal and external parties and stakeholders in evaluating floodplain reviews.
  • Obtain existing data and resources such as best available data, advisory base flood elevation maps, flood insurance rate maps, high-water mark determinations, and remote sensing documentation and use those resources to facilitate floodplain reviews.
  • Integrate data into reports, documents, or other work products and deliverables.
  • Complete the eight-step review process per 44 CFR Part 9 by determining the necessary scope of review and coordinate the integration of Part 9 floodplain reviews with concurrent historic preservation and environmental reviews.
  • Prepare and manage the publication of required public notices for floodplain projects.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including local and state officials, building officials, and floodplain managers. Provide technical assistance on floodplain considerations to incident organization leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate floodplain management information, advice, and opinions in a proper, precise,
    and timely manner to solve problems, answer questions, and inform others.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field with 5 years of experience in a related field and professional registration.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the requirements of Executive Orders 11988 and 13690.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing the eight-step process required in 44 CFR Part 9
  • General knowledge of environmental and historic preservation (EHP) laws, executive orders, regulations, agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make timely and informed recommendations anddecisions based on consideration of the facts, objectives, constraints, risks, and regulatoryrequirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare well-organized, audience-appropriate written reports and documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external parties and stakeholders.
