SeSenior Commissioning Superintendent (Data Center MEP / Mission-Critical Infrastructure) This is a full-time, full-time (40 hours/week), on-site or remote contract role located in Austin, TX; Abernathy, TX; Buffalo, NY; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; or U.S. Remote.
Summary This is a senior field leadership role responsible for end-to-end commissioning execution across hyperscale (100MW+) data center facilities, with full ownership of mechanical, electrical, and controls system readiness through final owner acceptance. You will serve as the on-site commissioning authority, coordinating all field execution activities from pre-functional testing through Integrated Systems Testing (IST). The role requires deep expertise in mission-critical mechanical systems and strong working knowledge of electrical and controls infrastructure, with accountability for ensuring fully operational, high-availability facilities delivered on schedule and to strict quality standards. This position functions as the primary integrator across contractors, commissioning agents, engineers, and owner stakeholders, ensuring alignment of execution, sequencing, and system readiness.
Our Ideal Candidate
7–10 years of commissioning and field supervision experience in hyperscale or mission-critical data center environments (100MW+)
Strong mechanical expertise in HVAC systems including chillers, dry coolers, pumps, FCUs, and cooling towers
Working knowledge of electrical systems (UPS, switchgear, generators) and controls systems (BMS/EPMS)
Experience leading full commissioning lifecycle including pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, and IST
Prior owner’s representative or client-side experience strongly preferred
Strong leadership experience coordinating contractors, engineers, and commissioning teams in high-complexity environments
Proficiency in construction scheduling, constraint management, and six-week look-ahead planning
Comfort operating in fast-paced, high-risk, high-consequence construction environments
Willingness to travel 50% or more across project sites
Responsibilities
Own and lead the full field commissioning program across all MEP systems on hyperscale data center projects
Execute commissioning phases including pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
Lead startup and energization sequencing of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems including chillers, UPS, generators, and switchgear
Coordinate closely with commissioning authorities, contractors, engineers, and owner representatives to resolve field issues
Conduct detailed field inspections to ensure compliance with design documentation and commissioning requirements
Develop and manage six-week look-ahead schedules and constraint logs to maintain execution velocity
Lead site coordination meetings with clients, trade partners, and internal stakeholders, presenting progress, risk, and recovery plans
Apply lean construction practices including takt planning, zone mapping, and pull planning
Track commissioning progress, deficiencies, and corrective actions in real time
Maintain safety compliance and ensure adherence to OSHA and energized work standards
Drive system turnover and final acceptance by the owner with full documentation and readiness validation
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary for this W-2 position ranges from $72.12 – $120.19 per hour, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
