Commissioning Engineer, Data Center Controls
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Austin, TX.
Summary
The Commissioning Engineer, Data Center Controls will lead commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities for SCADA, BMS, and EPMS systems supporting large-scale data center and industrial infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for overseeing functional testing, validating sequences of operations, troubleshooting controls systems, and ensuring successful system integration across multiple project sites throughout the U.S. and Europe. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in industrial automation, controls architecture, and mission-critical MEP systems within high-performance data center environments.
Our Ideal Candidate
- 5+ years of experience in controls commissioning, industrial automation, or mission-critical/data center MEP systems
- Strong knowledge of SCADA, BMS, EPMS, PLCs, and industrial controls integration
- Experience commissioning UPS systems, chilled water systems, HVAC controls, and electrical monitoring systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and debug PLC/HMI programming and control logic
- Experience validating sequences of operation and performing point-to-point testing
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or related technical field preferred
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center environments preferred
- Knowledge of ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning standards preferred
- ISA CCST certification or equivalent controls/instrumentation credential preferred
Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning and startup activities for SCADA, BMS, and EPMS systems across multiple project sites
- Oversee functional testing, system validation, and turnover processes for mission-critical infrastructure systems
- Perform point-to-point verification, sequence of operations testing, and controls integration validation
- Review control system architectures and ensure systems meet design intent and operational requirements
- Troubleshoot and resolve controls-related issues during startup and commissioning phases
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to support project execution and system readiness
- Validate integration between PLCs, HMIs, field devices, and industrial network protocols
- Support electrical checks, pre-functional testing, and mechanical system adjustments
- Provide technical guidance and commissioning oversight to project teams and vendors
- Ensure commissioning documentation complies with industry standards and project requirements
Compensation & Benefits
- The pay for this position ranges from approximately $96.15/hr – $120.19/hr based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
