Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centers
This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), field-based role requiring 100% travel to project sites across the United States.
Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical electrical infrastructure for high-density data center environments. This role will be responsible for designing resilient and scalable electrical systems that support advanced computing workloads while maintaining high standards for reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
The successful candidate will contribute throughout the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design and engineering development through permitting, construction documentation, commissioning support, and project turnover. This position requires hands-on electrical design expertise, strong technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across a rapidly expanding portfolio of data center projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for mission-critical data center facilities
- Produce engineering deliverables and construction document packages in collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams
- Support electrical infrastructure design from concept development through permitting, construction, commissioning, and project completion
- Develop solutions that balance reliability, constructability, project schedules, and budget requirements
- Define critical electrical equipment requirements and develop technical specifications
- Review and approve equipment submittals to ensure compliance with project standards and performance objectives
- Coordinate with commissioning teams to support testing, validation, and documentation of electrical systems
- Conduct field reviews, site assessments, and electrical system audits at active project locations
- Support startup and operational readiness activities for newly deployed facilities
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously across different regions and project phases
- Collaborate with operations, commissioning, construction, and engineering stakeholders to resolve technical challenges
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to electrical infrastructure standards, reliability, and deployment methodologies
- Support the development of scalable electrical solutions for high-density computing environments
Our Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience designing electrical systems for mission-critical, industrial, commercial, or data center facilities
- Hands-on electrical design experience supporting facility infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems and mission-critical infrastructure
- Knowledge of critical data center electrical equipment and supporting systems
- Experience supporting the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers or similar critical facilities
- Ability to evaluate constructability, maintainability, and operational impacts during design development
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound engineering decisions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively (100%)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting high-density compute environments, AI infrastructure, or HPC facilities
- Knowledge of commercial and industrial power distribution systems
- Familiarity with regional building codes, electrical codes, and permitting requirements
- Experience carrying designs from conceptual development through deployment and operational turnover
- Experience supporting construction administration, commissioning, or startup activities
- Knowledge of mission-critical redundancy strategies and electrical reliability principles
- Experience reviewing technical submittals and equipment specifications
- Familiarity with data center cooling infrastructure and related mechanical systems
Compensation & Benefits
- The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $96.15 – $120.19 per hour
