Data Center Structural Engineer
This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), hybrid role located in Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; or Seattle, WA, with approximately 20–30% travel to project sites.
Summary
We are seeking a Data Center Structural Engineer to support the design, development, and construction of large-scale, mission-critical data center facilities across a growing portfolio of projects. This role will contribute to structural engineering efforts from early-stage site evaluation and due diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and project completion.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate site suitability, develop structural solutions, support construction activities, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. This position offers the opportunity to help shape the next generation of hyperscale and mission-critical infrastructure while working across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities
Site Evaluation & Due Diligence
- Support structural due diligence activities for greenfield developments and facility conversion projects
- Review geotechnical reports and evaluate foundation conditions, settlement risks, soil bearing capacities, and seismic considerations
- Assess existing structures and identify constraints impacting development feasibility
- Evaluate site suitability for large-scale structural systems, heavy equipment loads, and mission-critical infrastructure
- Assist in identifying structural risks and cost drivers during site selection and project planning
Design & Engineering
- Apply and maintain structural design standards, basis of design documents, master specifications, and standard details
- Perform structural engineering analyses and design support for mission-critical facilities
- Utilize applicable design codes and standards including:
- ACI
- AISC
- ASCE 7
- International Building Code (IBC)
- Support foundation design strategies and structural system selection
- Coordinate structural scope with civil, architectural, and MEP engineering teams
- Contribute to the design and evaluation of:
- Structural steel framing systems
- Reinforced concrete foundations
- Tilt-up concrete structures
- Pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB)
- Support phased construction and delivery planning for large-scale campus developments
Construction Support
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and field change requests
- Conduct site visits to verify construction quality, structural compliance, and conformance with design intent
- Document observations and assist with issue resolution during construction
- Support change management activities and evaluate structural impacts associated with design revisions and change orders
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and project teams throughout construction execution
Our Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering focus
- 4+ years of structural engineering experience supporting mission-critical, industrial, commercial, or data center projects
- Experience designing and evaluating steel and concrete structural systems
- Working knowledge of:
- International Building Code (IBC)
- ASCE 7
- ACI 318
- AISC standards
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Strong understanding of structural analysis, constructability, and field implementation
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure with anticipated completion within six months
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel approximately 20–30% to project sites throughout the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
- Experience supporting hyperscale data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial developments
- Familiarity with FM Global structural requirements and equipment anchorage standards
- Experience with:
- Pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB)
- Tilt-up concrete construction
- Equipment support structures
- Mission-critical facility design
- Proficiency with:
- Revit
- AutoCAD
- ETABS
- RISA
- RAM Structural Systems
Compensation & Benefits
- The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $96.15 – $120.19 per hour
